Hi, Welcome to Décor Alchemy – where I share my passion for Décor and Styling and all things beautiful & inspiring! Décor is my biggest passion, I love decorating & redecorating, to bring new energy and mood flowing through the house (you will find me sharing lot of redecoration tips and ideas, on this blog) – blame my Gemini characteristics for recreating my spaces every few month! Well, restyling a space does create an illusion of new space, don’t you agree?! And even if you love your current style, revolving look of the space is always rejuvenating, and if it can be done without burning your pocket then why not, right?
My rendezvous with design and décor goes back to my memories as a 4 year kid flipping through ‘Architectural & Home design’ magazines. My Dad is an Architect and a Structural Design Engineer, which likely explains this fascination. I used to love decorating and redecorating my parents’ home and even as a kid, I would have a say in every single home style item they will buy – right from living room couch, dining table, curtains to even washing machine. I still remember how I forced them to buy pink washing machine! – Of course, what other color you think a 7 year old girl would have picked! J
Not just indoors, I also loved gardening as a kid – garden tools were my most favorite toys. Looking at my planted seeds and plants grow, used to make me so happy (it still does!). One time I got this frenzy for planting corns in my backyard, came home from school, dug up a 4X7 ft space to sow corn seeds. You should have seen the look on my mom’s face when she saw 1/4th of her nicely manicured lawn had been turned into a farm land! And within no time we had the whole area covered with around 5ft tall corn plants. But till date the tastiest corn that I have eaten are the corns we harvested from my little corn farm! The taste of your own hard work always feels the best! Would you not agree with me! J
Engineers meet Art
While growing up, even though I was passionate about Home Design and Décor, I would think my real calling was ‘Engineering’ due to my love for math & physics. So I studied ‘Electronics Engineering’ and then MBA. I am a Business Analyst in my day job and an Interior decorator/design enthusiast outside of office hours. I do love my day job as it satisfies my analyst Brain, while every time I see my décor idea/vision come to life it makes me Euphoric! Both me and my husband work in Technology, while we share love for beautiful artwork, hotels, Spa & Tropical places – you will see that my design and décor sense is a lot inspired by these themes!
Our center of world is our 3 year old girl, who already has started showing interest in décor, isn’t that crazy! One day she arranged all her different kind of beach shovels, rakes in the small bucket and said – “Look Mumma, my flower bouquet”. We live in one of the geekiest city in the United States with maximum no. of grey sky days, but also one with the most beautiful summers in the country! You guessed it right! We moved to Seattle 10 years back from India and you will see Indian influences in my design and decoration styles!
My design mantra
My belief is that your home should reflect your personality and your soul. Home style doesn’t have to be just what’s in trend, it should be the one that resonates with you, so it can be your own sanctuary. I don’t follow any rules in design and décor and love mixing different styles, colors, textures to create my own design recipes. Modern contemporary décor is my core style and I love mixing earth & metal tones to get a good balance! And since we love to travel (mostly to tropical places) and end up spending lot of time researching on hotel décor & ambience before our trips – a lot of my designs are actually inspired from these trips. Eating out is also one of our favorite activities and we mostly choose restaurants based on their ambience. Actually, many of my best and unique design ideas get inspired from Restaurants – they always amaze me. On my blog I would also be talking about my favorite restaurants (both local and travel finds) and how they inspired me (of course it would be around décor and not food J) – What else would you expect out of a Decorista who is not a foodie! 🙂
The artist in me
I am also an Artist and enjoy doing abstract paintings – they give my creative mind a channel to share my imaginations with the world! All the art work which you will see in my house are my own creations. From time to time, I will share my paintings on the blog, and would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on them.
Blog topics & sections
Here on my blog, I will be sharing my own home décor – one room at a time, with shopping inspirations hoping to help you with your projects – or even if you just are redecorating/rearranging part of your space. I usually do not decorate for seasons, but I keep recreating/decorating my space to reflect the vibe I want my space to have during those months. As one of my friend once said “Your house is like a rotating Sun, every time I come it has changed it’s direction, which is true! I will be sharing how to get multiple different looks for the same space by playing with existing stuff in your house or just adding few additional inexpensive items. I am not a gardening expert but I did a pretty good job in transforming my 55 X 48 ft blank space into a garden sanctuary, with a limited budget – now it is filled with colors, invites variety of birds during summer and Fall and makes us forgot sometimes that we live in the heart of the city & not in an island home. Did I brag too much? Well you will soon see on this blog and can provide me feedback on how I did!
Oh, and since we all love to travel and dress up, once in a while, you will see me blogging on my travel stories and fashion under the Lifestyle (coming soon!) section
Thanks for visiting !
If you enjoyed my blog & if I was able to inspire you, please leave your thoughts as comments. It will mean a lot to me! I hope to see you back here again for more inspirations, stories and ideas.
